I read that this song was the first song to ever air over radio waves in 1906. As I looked over the words, several stanza are highlighted in my mind.
(1)O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appears and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Chorus: Fall on your knees, O hear The angel voices!
O night Divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!
(3) Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name!
The world had long been awaiting the Messiah, hundreds of years of silence due to the separation that sin causes. BUT God had a redemptive plan. HALLELUJAH When we grasp the holiness of God, we feel our painful plight of sin. I am so thankful for Jesus and His willingness to come to a lowly manger. It gives me a ‘thrill of hope and this weary soul rejoices’.
His law is LOVE and His good news (gospel) is PEACE. The name of Jesus is so powerful! I must not forget it. It is in His name ALL oppression shall cease. If we believe, and speak HIS name what a different perspective each of us could have.
Sisters, focus on the name of the LORD and let it fill you with hope and joy and faith and strength.....Let all within us praise His holy name!
