The Little Children and Jesus
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
I love this passage of scripture! It warms my heart to know that we serve a God who sees children as valuable and even teaches us the importance of being like them. That is why I think children’s pastors are so special. They are like the people in this scripture. They bring children to Jesus so that they will be blessed. They introduce, reinforce, and gently guide as children are exploring what life with Jesus looks like. What an awesome privilege!
My prayer is that children’s pastors would see how vital and important their jobs are. I pray that they will also see the opportunity they have to learn and grow to have that childlike faith. That as they interact with these precious children they would be drawn to interact with the Father as they do. My hope is that they would have Holy Spirit inspired creativity to teach in a way that resonates with the children in their church. I also hope that these children would serve God all the days of their life, never straying to the right or to the left!
