April Showers..or Downpours?

Writer's picture: Kara HolmesKara Holmes

As I sit here this morning enjoying my coffee and my candles, I hear the rain falling outside.

It is a soothing sound to me, especially when I was a little girl sitting on my grandparents’ porch listening to the rain fall on the tin roof. I love that sound. Even sound machines use the soothing sound of rain.

What they usually exclude it the massive thunder from the sounds. There is no way to put lightning in that sound except for the massive “crack” at the end. But of course, that is avoided other wise the sleeper would rise with a start!

What starts out as soothing can get out of hand and begin to cause a little fear. Here in Louisiana we all understand that. If I see the water rising on my pond and encroaching up toward my house, I get a little fearful. If the thunder and lightning are too close, same thing.

As I continue in this journey with Jesus, I continue to learn trust. I know that April showers bring May flowers but I don’t always want to endure the rain or wait for the budding of the blossoms. We live in the world of “instant” and we get impatient when things do not happen fast or immediate. With God, it is different. He has a time schedule that is perfect for us to perfect us.

When I ask God the mold my character into His character, or strengthen my prayer life, or help me be more patient and empathetic with others....He will.

My prayer today is “LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN....OPEN THE FLOODGATES OF HEAVEN”. I must let Him wash away the impurities, water deep into my spirit, and then be patient for the flowers of His fruit to start to bud, grow into maturity and yield HIS BEAUTY.

Here is a verse to remember during the process: Philippians 1:6. “ And I am certain that God, who began a good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
