It was a long day and I was tired. Ran to the store to buy groceries to prepare for dinner. The man that carried out my groceries was more quiet than usual, but I was also and so ready to be home. Before I got in the car, I turned around to ask him if he was ok. He said not really. He was a little down because he just couldn't get in the Christmas Spirit. We discussed how this is the season in which we are to be joyful, charitable, generous, kind and forgiving ALL while we are stressed out trying to go here and go there, shop, cook, wrap and oh all the parties he said. As I said goodbye, I began to think about what is the Christmas Spirit and how do you get it? So, I did what everyone does -- I googled it!!!
How to get in the Christmas Spirit according to google:
TOP 10 Ways
1. Listen to Christmas Music
2. Watch a Hallmark Christmas Special
3. Put up a tree
4. Buy presents for someone else
5. Make Christmas Cookies
6. Have a party
7. Put up lights on your house
8. Order Christmas Cards
9. Go Caroling
10. Go see Christmas Lights
Problem with this list is the Christmas Spirit can't be bought, watched, listened to nor can you just get up and go get it or see it. The Christmas spirit is in your heart! The JOY of knowing that the story of the Christ Child is real and not some story we read or hear once a year. Luke 2:10-11 "But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great JOY for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." The reality of this story that brings JOY (the true Christmas Spirit) is found in why His birth is so important. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 "For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people."
So, as you do all the things you do this holiday season relax, take a deep breath and let it sink in -- Christmas gives your life purpose and meaning because of His birth we get to be born again.
