Finding Rest

Every summer I have a tendency to set new goals. It's a time to reevaluate things and decide what I want to accomplish and sometimes even consider how i'm doing in regards to who I want to be.

This summer i decided to take my goal setting more serious. Many years I've set my goals and written them somewhere and then forgotten about them. I didn't want to repeat that this summer. So I bought a white board and colorful dry-erase markers and magnets and each week I lay out goals for the week and then check them off as I go. So far I'm loving it and it's helping me stay focused.

One goal that I have each day simply says "soak and breathe." For ten minutes at some point in my day, I turn on worship music and merely soak in the presence of God and remember to breathe deeply. I try to release the weight of the things that I'm trying to carry instead of letting Him carry them. I want to calm myself and put my focus back on Him. It's helping me to remember that He's the one carrying the load and in charge of it all, not me.

The ten minutes a day is helping me in the overall idea of resting with Him as well. We can rest our bodies in the down time and veg out on Netflix and tv, but is that helping our soul find rest. Sure it's great for our bodies to be rested, but if we have not found rest and peace for our soul too, then it's kind of pointless.

The summer is a great time to work on implementing rest in our lives. What are you doing to help your soul find rest?
