Luke 2:36-38 KJV
[36] And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; [37] And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. [38] And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
Anna was found waiting in the temple, seeking God with fasting and prayer. She was hungry for more of God. She knew someone was coming who would bring the redemption for all who would come to Him.
Anna saw Jesus and had the revelation of the Messiah. Anna, an elderly woman, age 84, represents women in the greatest event of all time. Jesus had come! Emmanuel is here! The prophecy had been fulfilled! The birth of Jesus Christ come to the world!
Jesus was sent by God to die on the cross. He was fully God, yet fully man. He did not come to condemn the world, but to save it.
Now we who are born again have the Spirit of our Lord in an earthen vessel. We have more of Jesus than Anna who had the revelation of Christ did. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
I pray that we recognize today the gift that we have and we use it for our Lord. All who are weak or heavy laden, come to the cross where He died and lay your burden down.
This holiday season do not carry anymore unnecessary baggage around. Give it all to Jesus and thank Him, as Anna did. True Christmas spirit is to have the Holy Spirit. He gives joy and peace to all who will receive Him.
