As I woke up this morning thinking about today and all that was planned, I was excited. Maybe you don’t get too excited about being out early in the brisk air, but I was. My husband has been training for a half marathon for a few months now and today is RACE day! All the preparation is coming to fruition. Now I will confess that I am NOT a runner. I tried to be a few years back and came away with 2 stress fractures in the same leg. However, it is a love of my husband so I am a faithful supporter.
We are bombarded in our culture today that “life is all about me”. I want to encourage you to rethink that mentality and intentionally live for another. Let me explain: I know we need to take care of ourselves, I’m not talking about that. If we are not healthy and whole, we cannot take good care of others. What I am focusing on is a lifestyle that puts others before me. A childhood song I sang growing up was entitled “J O Y—Jesus first, yourself last and others in between”.
I am finding JOY in encouraging others, watching them grow and flourish, and achieving goals they set. I am finding JOY in seeing the smiles of others as I serve them, honor them, and love them. Jesus called us to be a servant of all. He himself said , the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. (Matthew 20:28). I am finding JOY in loving Jesus and serving others.
I am finding JOY in focusing on the world around me instead of myself.
What are you finding JOY in today?
